Major issues in the #1 market...

Postby NECRAT » Thu Oct 21, 2010 12:26 am

In case you haven't heard , but the Empire State Bldg master FM antenna suffered a major burnout on the transmission line to the lower bay of the upper FM antenna.
The Burnout has affected all the stations on the master antenna. The burnout has also caused a burn in the main power divider on the tower.
For the time being, the FM combiner is currently being fed into one of the bays of the two bay ERI via patch panel. (Temporarily the combiner was feeding the Alford antenna, but has since switched back to the main.)

Stations are operating at 50% TPO until the power divider and feedline are replaced. Word is, several stations will be operating from 4 times square until the RF gear is replaced.

This does not affect 95.5 (WPLJ), 97.1 (WQHT) and 101.1 (WCBS-FM),as they transmit from a seperate master antenna on the tower. However they will have to shut down for RFR safety during the antenna repairs.

These pictures have circled engineering groups in NYC. I received two copies of them...

If you listened to TWiRT last night, we had Chris Tobin from CBS/NY on. They plan to have everyone back on this weekend, probably Sunday. They're going to put the new divider in at 1am Sunday morning, then spend the day Sunday running tests.

I am disappointed, however, in the TWiRT blog not mentioning my website in its list of sites related the ESB site.

Have you asked Kirk to include it? I'm sure he would.

I did on facebook, but never heard a response and it's a bit late now so im not going to make a big deal about it.
I'm probably just shutting the site down January 01st anyways so I can go on Hiatus and decide what I direction I want to head in.

Huh. I'm sure it's a simple oversight on his part. I hate to see the site go down, I enjoy it a lot!
