Just a brief rant

I'm sure you have all been there before

Spent a week in IL for a graduation, also had an interview

Everything seemed fine, toured the facility and owners seemed sincere

Said they would talk it over and get back to me

Sent a thank you e-mail as soon as I returned to the motel

Sent another next day no response

Asked for an answer even if negative before I left town-still nothing

So I feel at least you should get a rejection of some kind???

STILL LOOKING!

Um, rarely happens. However, I'm told a handwritten thank you note will get someone's attention. Just because it's so rare anymore. Maybe not too late to try it.

HR or management not getting back to you after what you thought was a good interview is pretty common these days. Get used to it, or risk a lot of frustration.

I was looking at the SBE jobs listing the other day and noticed a lot of open positions. Do they pay what they used to? No. Are there alot of part time and contract openings? Yep, but hey it pays the bills.

Not sure if you specialize in TV or only radio, are up to speed with IT or not, but there are openings for good broadcast engineers, especially if you're willing to relocate. For example, ION TV is constantly posting PT engineering positions in several markets. Currently ION has postings in markets: Honolulu, HI, Clearwater FL, NYC, Cedar Rapids, IA, Frenchburg KY, Des Moines IA, Miami FL, Albany, NY

Family Life Radio has several full time postings in Tucson, AZ and Oklahoma.

Look, I'm not a big proponent of SBE per se, but their job listings are really pretty good and are added to weekly. You need to be a dues paying member to have full access to the listings, but if you're serious about looking for a gig, it's very worth it. Now the whole certification thing? I'll reserve my comments about that part..

Best of luck!

Kelly

Yes I did renew my SBE

I did a few years of TV in the 60's and wish I had stuck with is as that is where the money seems to be. I was making $75 a week as an Audio/Projectionist. My first radio job payed $1 an hour!

I am IT savy (Especially SS32) and have run some part time computer repair shops from my house in previous locations.

Seems all of the jobs listed are Cumulus or CC, and they want you to do many stations

I will re-locate for the right position and as my old PD used to say we need a 1K am that has turntables

Thanks for the post and any leads appreciated. I am working on some Contract Options in the DC area

...we need a 1K am that has turntables...
I work with a guy who says that all the time. I find the comment embarrassing. We can romanticize all we want, but the industry will never go back to turntables and here's why: Digital media can contain metadata, as I'm sure you know. You need it for RDS, HD Radio, and most of all for streaming where it is a legal fact of life. I don't think you can do that with a turntable.

So I just think spending time pining for turntables is a waste of time.

My company, Salem, has openings in Hawaii and Colorado Springs. If you have any interest, send a resume to johne@salem.cc.

Good luck to you on your job search.
