WARM

Postby Sam Buca » Thu Apr 16, 2009 2:28 pm

So WARM has been off the air for a bit now....transmitter problems. I know the antenna system is a disaster area, but they're not going to fix the transmitter? And they can't find an old transmitter from somewhere else that they can fix cheaper?

I wonder how much they'd want for the license. Since the antenna system is a mess and there's no transmitter, I'm sure I'd pay for just the license and they'd throw in the mess for free. I need a new toy to try one of my crazy "save the industry" ideas....... 8)

Probably not worth it in this economy, unless the tower site was in good shape. A 5 tower DA-2 has a lot of things that could need work. As a standalone operator, you'd have to invest quite a bit without any guarantee of return.

Couple of years ago? Sure. A couple of years from now? Maybe. Right now? No way.

The null depth suggests that it might be able to run 250 watts ND day and night. I didn't run a full study but even without the site a 590 station with a 6.8 mv/m night limit that could run ND even at relatively low power could be worth several hundred thousand dollars even as an orphan license. Find yourself a 250' tower in the center of the market (that's the minimum height for this frequency) and you can cover about 300,000 inside the 5 mv/m.

I spoke to someone who did due diligence on that site.....it needs a LOT of work to get it working. It's a shame. FM is too easy to be fun.

Doesn't that just sum up the engineering mantra perfectly

If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough parts.
Let's see if THIS will make it blow up.
Wonder what happens if I....

It's all just one step removed from, "Hey y'all, hold my beer and watch this!". Only we get paid to play the game and there isn't (usually) any beer involved.

Cool :D

Have any working iboc transmitters you want to get rid of for free? I have a secret agent planted at NAB to collect toys for me.

Free might be a stretch - but you should nag us for a sweetheart deal on a beta - say around, um, very late September.

Might be one of those situations that virtually everything probably needs replacing. Towers, lines, ltu’s, phasor, antenna monitor, buildings, transmitter. Then there is the spread-out low frequency nature and complexity that goes with this inline spacing configuration and two patterns on top of all that. Can you imagine the amount of sampling and feeder line that would be needed? Even if it were billing a million dollars a month, you would have to consider moving the programming to one of your FM’s and selling the land, if they even own that. I can think of several that have gone down this path, and several others that are close to the edge. I'll bet they can't even give it away.

Tough times...

Nope. different patterns.

Day time has 2 Augmentations, Night time has one, and the pattern IS a slightly different.

DOH! The C tower is a MINUTE change on ratio... from 4.65 to 4.45. Talk about itty bitty.

Forgive my ignorance; I have seen this term used elsewhere but can not find it described on the web.
What are augmentations (asked sheepishly with tail between legs)?
