More Bullets....

I note from another list says that NextMedia CE for Joliet (Docs old stomping ground) was shot yesterday in an attempted robbery in his apartment parking lot. No word on his condition.

Needless to say our prayers are with him.

Mike Dinger is also a valued member of this forum (His user name is his Amateur Radio callsign, W9PXZ). It looks like he last checked in day before yesterday.

I know Mike pretty well. He's about as nice as they come. He's come by to visit a few times, and I've always tried to run into him at the fall Broadcaster's Clinic in Madison each year.

I was stunned at the news.

Mike, you're in our prayers. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

I've worked for Mike for the past four years in Joliet and Aurora, and I'm truly shocked by this.

My thoughts and prayers are with him.

Thanks everyone. I'm back home today. I was discharged from the hospital on Wed. with a 20 gauge hole in my hip. It was an armed robbery as I approached the back door of my home in S. Joliet. My take on it is that the robbers were mad that I only had $8 in my wallet (I seldom carry much cash) and they couldn't figure out that the parking brake was set on my car when they tried to steal it.

I will be fine. There was no bone damage, just a flesh wound. My belt took a good portion of the shot blast. I am up and walking around, but I won't be setting any speed records for a while.

My neighbors have been "circling the wagons" and want to see the perpetrators caught as much as I do and the local Next Media folks have shown support and assistance far and above the call.

Mike-

I'm thrilled to hear that you're OK. I can only imagine what it had to have been like.

Thank goodness you're fine. As for setting speed records? I haven't been able to do that for years, and so far it hasn't affected me! ;)

Again, glad to hear you're OK, and I hope they get the jerks who did this.

Glad to hear you are OK.

Perhaps we need to buy you one of these:

Mike,

Glad to hear you're ok. Thinking about moving? Or is that area relatively safe?

This is the second robbery. My house was broken into the weekend I closed on it and a few minor things stolen. My car has been vandalized twice. I have a meeting with a realtor Monday.

If you don't mind me asking, where in Joliet are you? Where I used to live in Joliet (not too far from the NM offices), it wasn't too bad... Now on the East side of Joliet... that's a whole different story... :x

I remember going through Joliet on a train a few years ago, and seeing along the trash laden train tracks (near that minor league ball park) some guy lying on the ground near all this filth. I couldn't really tell if he was just sleeping, passed out drunk or dead. I told someone on the train about it (I didn't have a cell phone at the time).

I'd rather not air more details in a public forum. (making Feder today in the Sun Times is publicity that I didn't want.) If anyone would like to contact me privately, my email is my callsign at mikedinger.us.
